Groove With Me, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that provides free after-school dance classes and performance opportunities to low-income, at-risk girls in East Harlem, New York City. Groove With Me utilizes dance as a means to instill skills girls need to confront the adversity they face daily and throughout their future development. The organization seeks to decrease teen pregnancy, truancy, crime, violence, prostitution, substance abuse and gang related activity by providing girls-only, positive development programming.
90% of the expenses at Groove With Me go directly to programming, to providing free dance classes to girls. When you contribute to Groove With Me you know your support is going to the immediate necessities of a dance studio for girls.
In December, 2008, Groove With Me’s 200 dancers had the opportunity to perform at the World Famous Apollo Theater for over 900 audience members. The show was produced by just 4 staff members and was choreographed by almost 40 volunteer dance teachers. Over 500 teaching hours in our studio were logged just from September thru December! Your donations help provide Groove With Me’s girls the opportunity to not only experience professional dance classes in a newly renovated studio, but they also give the girls the chance to perform in professional venues.
